AU Background:
Fifteen years before the events of Xenosaga Episode III, Captain Jin Uzuki was dispatched as part of the Federation Military during the Miltian Descent operation to investigate the root of the Conflict. From U-Tic he stole the Y-Data and fled, eventually encountering Canaan and chaos. He decided to help them and then the three of them encountered Margulis at the Roof Garden where he had meant to separate from Canaan and chaos. The fight that erupted between then, though, had a different result. Though Jin had been victorious in their fight and transferred the Y-Data to Canaan, Jin collapsed from his injury which he had claimed to be “just a scratch.”
The wound was worse than expected and he soon succumbed to it and died, trying to be stubborn and get to Shion before his wound killed him. Instead though, he was approached by an unfamiliar face: Wilhelm. As a Shining Will, a very rare individual, he was offered the chance to protect his sister (and the universe) if he were to become a Testament. His sister was all he had left, he’d heard his father being killed when Suou had contacted him, and so he agreed. Using the restored ‘life’ he’d been given, Jin hurried to Labyrinthos and took Shion to escape the planet. He left her with their grandparents on Second Miltia, using his newfound abilities as a Testament to use the face of a strange so that there wouldn’t be any suspicion about him having survived.
Over the years, he kept an eye on Shion in secret (though Wilhelm knew it because it’s impossible to hide anything from him) and did whatever Wilhelm told him he needed to do. Skip forward to Episode I, the incident with the Gnosis attack on the Woglinde. Jin was there, making sure none of the Gnosis made it to Shion’s room when they had swarmed the entire ship until KOS-MOS was activated. There was little for him to actually to until Shion, and the friends she would soon make, actually made it to Second Miltia so he vanished once more and without a trace of ever having been there.
As a Testament, he was forced to interact quite a bit with the other Testaments, none of which he particularly liked. Like Kevin. Especially Kevin.
By the time Shion’s group made it to Second Miltia, Jin had acquired the E.S. Reuben. Since he was a Shining Will, one who could pilot an Ein Sof, it became his and it would eventually awaken through his usage. In disguise, Wilhelm send Jin and Canaan with Shion’s group to Old Miltia so that they could decode the data that Jin had left with Canaan fifteen years before.
Inside Labyrinthos, when Margulis attacked the group, Jin couldn’t intervene as he had in canon and fight Margulis. He did use just a small demonstration of his power though and created a shield to block most of the blast he had directed towards them before disappearing once more to continue with the data and rejoin them still in disguise.
At the end of that, Jin then had to deal with the new White Testament: Albedo.
Without the group he had been working with in canon to reveal Shion’s fathers connection to U-Tic and spark suspicions about Vector’s involvement, it took much longer for her to discover the information and resign. Only two months later was the testing of T-elos.
When the group was attacked by Margulis’ ES at the floating landmass, Jin intervened quickly to ensure that he didn’t mess up Wilhelm’s plans and the Elsa was trapped on Rennes-le-Chateau. Those on the Durandal didn’t know how to get them out, so Jin sent them an anonymous message about KOS-MOS’ Tertiary Weapons System and that it could get through. From then on, Jin didn’t assist or interact with the group in any way except to leave herbal tea/medicine for Shion after another collapse though no one saw him.
Once KOS-MOS was trashed in favor of T-elos and Shion and her friends tried to recover her to save the group trapped on Rennes-le-Chateau, Jin watched them without being seen to ensure that her sudden bouts of unconsciousness didn’t grow worse before the end of her journey.
As a result, when they were sent back to Miltia, Jin wasn’t there to perform the transplant of organs from Febronia to Virgil. Although, there was little actual effect on the timeline since Jin and the others weren’t originally there.
At least, not until they went to Michtam and Margulis, again, got in their way. By now, his purpose was drawing to a close and he knew that Shion would do what needed to be done once they made it to Zarathustra’s chamber.
So the Green Testament appeared and unmasked himself, giving Shion a sad smile before fighting Margulis on his own, knowing that the Colonel wouldn’t stand a chance against him while the others went on.
Personality:
For a former Federation soldier, Jin was always very laid-back and calm, rarely losing his temper or raising his voice. That’s not to say he doesn’t. Think of it as a quiet eruption, steadily building up force until it explodes. In death though, Jin has become even more calm, accepting of things. As a Testament, the easiest way to get his blood boiling (one of the only ways) is to go after Shion or hurt her in some way.
Many people find him calm and easy to talk to, which carried over in death, and very friendly. Though his social interactions are severely lacking after the incident on Miltia, he still often finds himself talking with others and with the… more sane of the Testaments (not Voyager or Albedo, in other words.) He can also be quite insightful, knowing when there’s something bothering someone or if they need someone to talk to.
With a love for learning and the past, Jin still often finds himself collecting old books or objects (that phone that Helmer uses was totally a gift from Jin) and reading through them. And though he doesn’t entirely trust or care about Wilhelm, he will find himself discussing the past with him and learning what the world used to be like from someone who actually lived through it. And having that experience was almost worth what he gave up when he became a Testament. And he was already quite intelligent beforehand though he finds it disappointing that he won’t be able to carry this information into the next Recurrence.
When Jin comes to care for someone, whether they be friends or family or even lovers, he cares for them a lot. To the extent that he would protect them with his life or forgive angry words and poor treatment against him. He’ll even respect those that hate him or claim so, like in the case of Margulis who was responsible for his death. Even complete strangers are victim to how polite and caring he can be. For all that though, as deeply as he cares, he suffers from extreme guilt when he knows that he’s failed someone. When he died, his only concern was getting to Shion. He knew his parents were dead and if he had been faster, they’d have lived as well despite Aoi likely remaining in a coma.
For his friends, he is willing to jump in and protect them when the battle isn’t exactly his. As a Testament, he is sent several times to interfere with Margulis, U-Tic or Ormus in order to ensure that Shion and her group proceed without interruption even though Shion and chaos are his only ties to the group.
Always polite in his interactions, it’s very hard to get a bad first impression of Jin. He also tends to be quite honest, unafraid to share his opinions of a person even if they are right there with him. He has very little to lose by sharing his opinion now, after all.
In battle, he uses calm and precise movements, instead of relying on brute strength. He’s a tactician and a good one, each movement carefully considered and a distinct lack of theatrics in his methods. Since dying and becoming a Testament, he’s become slightly more cocky about his capabilities in combat though he doesn’t make any efforts to flaunt his abilities. He still prefers to resolve disagreements peacefully if possible.
During certain situations, Jin is quick to take control and command others. While this situation isn’t a common occurrence, it does happen and he’ll make decisions necessary ensure that the largest amount of people possible survive through an incident or the most good is done.
To make it short: Testament Jin’s personality hasn’t altered that much from canon Jin, merely his situation in life and death. He wouldn’t allow himself to act differently or change himself due to his nature as a Testament.
Abilities:
Ether abilities, a wide variety of them which are nanomachine based abilities and considered a science, not magic. Jin has a preference for ice ethers when fighting but he’s capable of using various elements including fire/lightning, earth, air and things of that sort as well as using non-elemental Ethers for attacks and status affects to either boost the group he‘s with, decrease enemy abilities or poison/slow/whatever them. He can also use several types of healing Ethers like Medica and it’s more advanced forms and a few that heal status affects.
He can also use his ethers to imbue his sword with an elemental ability, which is incredibly useful in battle with his skills and agility. And in his time with the Federation Military, he was a trained field medic. (Canon Jin was a doctor for a short time so he’s obviously trained in medicine, even if it’s only minor.)
In addition to that, Jin has the abilities of a Testament which are nearly limitless. To name a few there’s telekinesis, teleportation and the creation of wormholes and force fields. Testaments are also capable of rendering themselves invisible and intangible and can survive in the vacuum of space without any type of protection. They can also change their own appearance/transform (evidenced by Kevin’s Roth Mantel disguise) to suit their needs.

Revisions Part I: Powers
"The power of testament has no material limitation. Because they exert an effect on the real number domain from the imaginary domain, it is possible to produce an action that disregards physical laws. However, this miracle-like phenomenon is still just something that is performed only in the imaginary and real number domains within the lower domain, and is not something connected to the upper domain where U-Do exists."
It then refers us to sections 1, 2 and 3 of the Perfect Guide. For the most part, we can skip section 1 because the information we want is in section two and follows:
"The ability of Testament is something that alters the imaginary domain, and as a result, it has influence in the real number domain. This is why they could perform numerous miracle-like deeds and cause phenomena that disregarded the physical laws of the real number domain. This is also proof that all existence exists in both the real and imaginary number domains. There is no exception to this, even for artificial structures and products."
I know this game well and I'm a bit confused by this.
Very simply, Testaments can't be harmed easily because they have shields that protect them from almost all attacks. In canon, it took the Hilbert Effect and KOS-MOS sneaking up behind the Black Testament just so she could stab her arm through his chest. Even with that attack though, he survived and just flew away like a smug bastard. They've also got powerful telekinesis which is part of their shielding, they can stop objects thrown at them and redirect them or simply allow them to drop.
They can also turn invisible and intangible, unable to be seen or touched since they lack actual physical bodies. Being dead has that effect on people. (This will obviously change in the tower, Jin having a physical body there.) They can survive without needing to breathe, the vacuum of space having no effect on them since they're dead and can manipulate the senses of those around them depending on who has what kind of resistance to those powers. And they are capable of telepathic communication, which is typically a skill kept among themselves and with Wilhelm.
Revisions Part II: Personality
Well, Jin is dead and he's a Testament. He now owes loyalty to a man he never would have expected to or ever knew, so he's a bit unsure of what he's doing. Though, as a Testament, he's come to accept Eternal Recurrence as Wilhelm could not have made him a Testament otherwise.
As such, he's willing to and often forced into using methods that he might not normally have consented to when he was alive. This includes causing mental or emotional anguish, torture, manipulation, etc. It hurts him to do these things but he does because he knows that he has to if he wants to help save the universe and, most importantly, his sister.
Dying and being brought back as a Testament may not seem so bad to most people because, hey, you're not completely dead. That doesn't change the fact that he DID die and he's aware of that. His body was left on Miltia like his parents, records report that he died in action. He knows this and he genuinely believes that he has no right to act or be among the living. So he makes little or no effort at all at being among them unless he's given an order that requires it. Afterward, he'll just isolate himself among books or something else that draws his interest at the moment. Sometimes that includes talking with the others Testaments and sometimes... not. Preferably not, in fact, but he can't avoid them forever.
Add to that the fact that he was killed by a man he'd once called a friend, who trained with him under his grandfather: Ouga Uzuki. The skills they had both learned together, conflicting elements used in their skills and he lost. He'd sworn that he wouldn't allow Margulis to inherit his grandfathers techniques and yet he had died. It's not surprising that Jin feels an incredible amount of shame at that. Shame enough that, if he were to ever encounter Margulis (which he has, on Miltia 14 years later) he'd be very careful to avoid him, remain in disguise and not use any of the skills that might be recognizable.
If anything, one COULD assume that Jin fears Margulis. This is untrue. He was killed by that man and that leaves a mark that can't be easily overcome. He's wary of the Colonel, if anything. He wouldn't underestimate him or anyone else after an incident like that. He takes no chances now when fighting.
